WEDDING DAY FASHION – SOME TIPS FOR THE GUYS
Weddings and what to wear to them…. it’s an age-old saga. And this isn’t a female dilemma only….men are also feeling the pressure of the wedding fashion parade too.
Whether it’s formalwear for the groom, the best man, the father of the bride, the awkward uncle or the male guests… the choice has to make the grade. With photos broadcast on social networking pages almost instantaneously – you wouldn’t want to be the laughing stock of FaceBook because of your fashion faux pas, would you ? Nor would you want to be immortalised in the wedding album for the wrong reasons !.
It’s really important to dress appropriately for the big occasion says a leading Margaret River wedding suit hire company, Stepping Up Menswear. The first thing you need to do is to check whether the invitation has a dress code. ’Black tie’ means a tuxedo. If the dress code is ‘formal’ – then mens wedding suits in dark colours are the most appropriate. ’Morning suits’ ie. top hats and tails is generally reserved for very traditional English style weddings, very grand occasions or celebs or royals tying the knot.
Weddings are generally considered to be formal occasions, so formalwear is the right attire. Unless of course, the happy couple are tying the knot on a beach, barefoot and clad in flowing white linen… in which case, you would ditch your charcoal grey, freshly drycleaned suit for something a bit more ‘suitable’! Obviously, the weather plays a part in the choice of wedding attire – generally dark, wool suits for winter/night-time weddings and lighterweight fabrics for summer/day occasions. Wearing a tuxedo is generally limited to night time functions only – and usually only after five pm.
You should choose a mens suit that complements your body shape. If you’re short and slim, opt for a jacket that has two or three buttons and a deep ‘V’ shape to elongate your body. A single breasted jacket with one or two buttons is best for short and wider men.
Another important thing to remember when it comes to wedding formal wear is that guests should never outdo the bridal party. If the groom and his retinue are in tuxedoes, you should be one step down in a dark formal suit.
You could always ask your local suit hire shop for their advice on what to wear to a wedding …or any other formal function. They’re bound to have some excellent ideas about what suits your shape, your budget and of course, the function …plus it’s surprisingly affordable too.
